Nick Peterson

Founder | Principal

Nick brings more than 20 years of experience sourcing unique, off-market opportunities in commercial and residential real estate.

At Maven, his focus on the acquisition and disposition of multi-family properties ensures the strongest returns for investors.

He has applied his expertise in the Chicago, Minneapolis/St.Paul, and Southeast Florida markets, resulting in transactions of more than $600 million in residential and commercial property values.

Nick is a licensed real estate broker in Illinois, and is an alumnus of the University of Colorado-Boulder.

MIKE MUNSON

Director of Development

As Development Director, Mike oversees all facets of real estate development including deal sourcing and feasibility, acquisitions, design development, entitlements, financing, construction administration, and lease-up. Mike has been involved in the acquisition and/or development of eight properties across five different states which in aggregate amounts to nearly 1,350 units at a total development cost of more than $200mm. More recently, Mike played the lead role in successfully closing and developing the largest volumetric modular project in the upper Midwest.

Mike’s five years of experience includes new construction, acquisition rehabilitation/adaptive reuse, low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, and distressed asset partnership takeovers. Prior to joining Maven, Mike was Development Manager at a Minneapolis-based firm focused primarily on multifamily new construction. Before that, he worked on the development and acquisitions team at a national affordable housing developer.

Mike graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Real Estate & Urban Land Economics and is currently an active member of NAIOP, CCIM, and Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association.

 

AUSTIN PETERSON

Director of Finance & Development

Austin brings over five years of real estate financial analytics and asset management experience to Maven. He is experienced in developing data-driven, strategic business plans leading to improved property values and efficiencies in management. His wealth of knowledge also includes structuring creative financing solutions for real estate development. This encompasses the utilization bridge financing and tax credit programs, specifically Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits.

Before joining Maven, Austin played a key role on the internal financial consulting team at Dominium, Inc, one of the nation’s largest and most innovative housing development and management companies focused on results and long-term value. In his role at Dominium, Austin provided financial analytics for a portfolio of roughly 40,000-units in all areas including asset management, operations, maintenance, capital markets, marketing, and compliance. Austin has also completed many hands-on new construction and large renovation projects in his own portfolio of properties.

Austin graduated from Saint Louis University with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

STEVE TEEGARDEN

Chief Financial Officer

Steve brings 15 years of real estate accounting, corporate finance and asset management expertise to the team.

Before joining Maven in 2019, Steve was a Director at Ivanhoe Cambridge, a Montreal-based firm managing over $60 billion in office, multi-family and industrial assets. Specializing in value-add and core office funds, Steve collaborated with institutional partners in Canada and Hong Kong, and led a team in developing expertise in GAAP-to-IFRS reporting, cash flow modeling and reengineering triple-net lease recoveries.

Prior to that, Steve spent 7 years at GGP as a Manager in the Financial Reporting and Audit groups, overseeing fund accounting and financial modeling for $4 billion and $1 billion mixed-use funds, in addition to working on GGP’s Brazil and Turkey investments. Steve started his career at Ernst & Young as an auditor and consultant.

Steve completed a BS in Accounting at Miami University and MBA in Finance at Northwestern University (Kellogg).  He is a CPA and active in AICPA, NAREIT, Urban Land Institute, Kellogg Real Estate Alumni Club and Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. 

KARI BENNETT

VP - Marketing

Kari brings more than 20 years of experience in branding, digital strategies, marketing communications and organizational development. Her focus is aimed at delivering value to customers while ensuring business objectives are achieved. Her expertise extends across a number of industries including: tech, retail, life sciences, hospitality, and a multitude of events (grand openings, conferences, festivals, etc)

In addition to her knowledge around marketing best practices, she also specializes in organizational development. She’s restructured a number of marketing departments, and led businesses through challenging and opportunistic times including brand launches, grand openings, acquisitions, downsizing, etc.

In her role at Maven, she works closely with agency partners to monitor trends, markets and develop successful “go-to-market” strategies to deliver ROI by attracting and engaging relevant audiences based on their unique needs and purchasing behavior. Ultimately the properties we “re-invent” become the most desirable places to live, visit, and indulge.

Kari holds an MBA in strategic marketing and change management.
